I’ve got a shocking confession to make (and some people won’t want to read this).
Here’s my confession: I’ve become very frustrated with most home service industry groups.
It all started back when my business partner (Rob) and I were working as young electricians in our newly-formed service company. We were green and eager… and we joined some of the industry groups out there to learn the skills we needed to grow.
But then at the networking events, when I went up to the bigger guys to ask how they got so big, they wouldn’t give me the time of day.
Then we’d all sit down in a large meeting room to learn… and the OLD presenter would open up a binder and start reading. (It was all I could do to keep awake.)
Worse yet, as I listened to him drone on and on, I realized that he was teaching things that worked DECADES ago but didn’t work today.
I looked around the room and saw a whole bunch of service business owners who were all there in the hopes of getting value out of the group… but it was just stale coffee… stale strategies… and stale networking opportunities.
I tried over and over, in different groups, hoping to find a group that could help me grow.
None did.
In fact, I had to look outside of the industry to learn the strategies to help me grow… and as soon as I did that, my business grew so quickly that we outgrew the “founding fathers” of one of the industry groups we belonged to.
That’s when I had an epiphany.
